Link the RED ROCKET® to Thunderbolt-enabled Macs

The mLink R Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis from mLogic was designed specifically to connect the RED ROCKET card from RED Digital to iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Air & MacBook Pro computers via Thunderbolt.  mLink R features cutouts on the back panel to mount the ROCKET BNC connectors.  

Big Possibilities - Small Form Factor

mLink R supports a single PCIe 2.0 card (up to x16 physical) and is the industry’s smallest and lightest Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis for the RED ROCKET.  mLink R features two 10Gbit/second Thunderbolt ports and supports daisy-chaining of up to six Thunderbolt devices including other mLinks, storage devices, mDP monitors and the Apple Thunderbolt Display.  DVI, HDMI and VGA monitors can also be part of the chain when use with mDP adapters.  mLink R supplies 10W of power to support bus-powered Thunderbolt devices.  

Thunderbolt I/O - Ultrafast Performance

Thunderbolt technology enables mLink R to transfer data at up to 10Gbps. That's 20x faster than USB 2.0 and 12x faster than FireWire 800. When loaded with a PCIe RAID adapter (Atto R680) mated to eight SATA II drives, mLink cranks out over 700 MB/second of throughput for the most demanding applications.

The mLink R Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis is designed to make it easy to swap the ROCKET in to and out of the enclosure.

Innovative Design - Solid Engineering

mLink R features a PCIe x16 slot and accommodates up to full-length, 1/2 or full-height PCIe cards.  A temperature controlled, variable speed smart-blower keeps the installed PCIe card optimally cool without excessive noise. And the system powers on and off with the Mac to save power.

TNT SHOW:"Cold Justice" - This docu-drama, produced by Emmy winners for such series as Law & Order, Project Runway and Top Chef, will follow former prosecutor Kelly Siegler and crime scene investigator Yolanda McClary as they crack cold cases. Production company Magical Elves.
 
"On Cold Justice, the producers took a bold step in choosing the Red Epic over other cameras for their docu-drama. It was a bold step because they did not stay within the comfort zone of just shooting "HD", but were going for a higher fidelity and cinematic look. Shooting the entire show at 4k +, the initial concern was the turn around time to get the footage transcoded. This is where the mLogic mLink R came into play. Our first week involved shooting over 2 terabytes a day for five days straight. Thanks to the mobility of the Thunderbolt mLink R, it allowed our DIT, Sean Hunter, to transcode on the spot at location. When company moves were required, the entire DIT system fit into a backpack so transporting was a breeze. The first phase of the shoot was Monday through Friday. Amazingly, all the files were transcoded to Avid DNX by Saturday only one day after the first week wrap. We were working with a prototype that worked non-stop and never skipped a beat.
